Translation and subtitling
Hi. I’m Nicolas. I started working as a freelance translator and subtitler from English and Dutch into (Belgian and French) French in 2020.

Services
I offer translation, revision, subtitling and transcription services. Not sure what this means? Let me explain.
Translation
Translation is the process of transposing a text in one language, called the ‘source’ language, into a ‘target’ language. I translate words and texts from Dutch or English into French.
Transcription
When a video dialogue has subtitles in the same language, this is just another form of subtitling, called transcription.
Subtitling
Subtitles provide a textual on-screen translation of a video’s dialogue. If the people in the video speak Dutch or English, I translate this into French.
Revision
Revision involves checking a text, which may (or may not) be a translation, for correctness. I review the text, comparing it against the source text if it is a translation, to detect errors and correct them.
My added value
Part of being a freelancer means being proactive, a perfectionist, and a workaholic. But I’d like to tell you a bit more about what I stand for, starting with three values, and a fourth one – honesty – thrown in for free, as an added bonus.
Flexibility
Did your deadline change?Do you have a special request?Want to contact me through another channel? I try to adapt my work schedule and way of working as much as possible to accommodate even the most special requests.
Responsiveness
My job is to ensure that you get an answer to your question as soon as possible. Adapting part of the text following changes is never an issue. Do you have a last-minute request? Consider it done, with a smile!
Multidisciplinary
I’m curious by nature, so I have a wide range of interests. My specialisations are marketing, science, IT, culture, tourism, music, and sports but I’m always interested in broadening my scope.

Icebreaker
Hi, I’m Nicolas Meulebrouck. Nice to meet you! As you can see, I have a very Belgian name: originally Flemish, it is spelled the French way. I studied translation at the Institut libre Marie Haps in Brussels, and love languages, word games, idioms, films and series. Which why I'm so happy that my job ticks all these boxes. Perfect!
These people rely on me
Since 2020, clients, co-workers, and colleagues have been relying on me for their translations and revisions.
